Blackhawk Farms Weekend Results

The team took to the track this past weekend at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, IL for the SCCA Major Event weekend dubbed "May The Fourth Be With You." This was a doubleheader event with a race on both Saturday and Sunday. Jason was set to compete in the #8 Kohler Powered Wynnfurst P1 entry and Jeff in the #3 Kohler Powered Lola P1 entry. This is the lone SCCA race of the year for Jeff as the balance of his season is focused on the Vintage Car races. Qualifying started out strong for Jason on Saturday as he put the car on the pole for the afternoon race. During the race Jason was running great with a strong second place run. The engine was smooth and the new Hoosier Tires were providing exceptional grip. The car sounded great and looked super fast. Unfortunately, a gearbox failure caused Jason to limp to a 4th place finish. We have had gearbox failures in the past, but this one was more than we had seen with multiple parts breaking. Jeff was running his own race starting 4th in his 1981 Kohler Powered Lola. This car was originally a C Sports Racer that now qualifies as a P1 entry. But it's no comparison to the modern day P1 cars in the field. The Kohler Engine in Jeff's car was perfectly in tune and powered Jeff to a 3rd place finish.

Unfortunately, the damage to Jason's gearbox was more than the team could repair at the track. With Jeff only running the one SCCA event and Jason focused on the Division Championship AND a shot at this years SCCA National Championship Runoffs, the decision was made to put Jason in Jeff's car for the Sunday race to hopefully score more points. Jason took to the track in his dad's P1 car Sunday morning for qualifying and put down some solid laps to start the race 3rd. Sunday afternoons race started strong for Jason as he was able to propel the car to second place on the first lap and was running a solid race for more than half the race. He wasn't able to hold onto 2nd though and ended up with a 3rd place finish.

While we always like to win! Coming away with some points for Jason with a 3rd and 4th place finish add to that a pole position on Saturday, overall a successful weekend for the team.

From here, Wynnfurst Racing switches gears as we prepare for the SVRA Spring Vintage Festival at Road America May 17 - 19. Both Jeff and Ron will take to the track in their Kohler Powered Under 2 Liter Can Am Lola's. Check back soon for the weekend schedule. We hope to see you at the track.
